The art of lettering is four-dimensional. Beyond width, height and (implied) depth, there is also message. The words themselves trigger the imagination and senses.
The graphics on this page are in no particular order. I mixed elements for the sake of visual variety. There are three main motifs: graffiti, concrete word art, and a pair of faux stencil graphics. There are a few other graphics that I will be adding shortly. Where an explanation is helpful, I’ve included a caption.
Danger and Caution The design above is a case study in process. I drew the letters to look as if they were spray painted over stencils. The dripping paint is meant to enforce the look. I then covered each letter with a square piece of paper and smeared ground charcoal on it to give the illusion of overspray.

Lettering
I get a kick out of creating little graphics like these. Sometimes using unexpected words is fun too, as in the black butterfly below.
